At youth group a few weeks ago we talked about wanting to make a difference and doing something meaningful this Christmas.
The initial idea was to take the
World Vision Gift Catalogue and try to get people to sponsor as many things (especially Chickens!) as possible in our schools and such.
This is a great idea, but it’s already December and it’s a little late to start a big campaign like this.
Plus the church is already doing a ton of fundraising on it’s own.
This is still a great idea but may the timing isn’t right.
So I had an idea.
I’m calling it the Global Christmas Challenge, and it is my challenge to you. This Christmas, instead of one more present under the tree for you, why not send a gift to someone that could change their world and maybe save their life.
So here’s how it works. You go up to someone who’s getting you a Christmas present (like your parents, grandparents, etc). And when they ask you what you’d like for Christmas, show them a World Vision Gift Catalogue and ask that just one present for you this year would go to someone else.
Just imagine this: instead of a $32 DVD, you could send life-saving mosquito nets to a family of children and protect them from malaria. Or you could send 3 kids to school by buying them the uniforms the need.
Now I’m not saying that you have to give up all your presents this Christmas, but can you afford to give up one? You may not even remember what you got for Christmas last year, but if you could give someone a gift this year that they’d never forget. Ever. We’re talking life-changing events here. How cool is that?
Please go to the website to check out all the amazing things World Vision is doing. Or, if you’d rather have a old-fashioned paper Catalogue, I’ll have them at church on Sunday. Please leave a comment and let me know what you think!
What do you say? Feel like changing the world today?

One more thing: I need a couple of youth to write a few sentences about the this Christmas challenge for the Church Newsletter. If you're interested, please email me! dcolvinson@holytrinity.mb.ca
Well, i can tell you that Dave has already told me that he would like one of his gifts (and he really doesn't get alot in the first place) to go towards feeding a family. Food is important in our home, and i bet that you would be a pretty crabby person if you barely got a meal a week (and if it tasted like crap when you did get to eat). We have food EVERYWHERE,and many of us eat TOO MUCH of it (me included!!), so dave's gift will be involving food! What about yours??
-Janie (and Corrina too!)
hey dave! thats a super good idea and would be easier than what we wanted to do originally. we should talk to the congregation about it and stuff..sweet!! im soo excited! awesome stuff.
